First Week....Gotta Love it!!
We had a really amazing week this week....full on curriculum time! Were your kids exhausted, or was it just the teachers??? Friday nights are not what they used to be. We were lights out by 9:30!
Our new ELA (English Language Arts) curriculum is in full stride. We do A LOT! Your kiddos are going to do an amazing amount of reading and writing. I am very excited. Our first story is called "Trouble at the Sandbox" and we have covered a ton, including story structure, how characters respond to changes, character traits, using information from illustrations, character point of view, identifying major events and challenges in a story, and speaking and listening skills. And yes...that was all in 5 days! Ummm....wow! This is not your grandma's 2nd grade. Give those 2nd grade babies lots of hugs and kuddos because they all worked really hard this week at making me look good! :)
Did I mention that we are knee deep in math as well? Hello 3-digit numbers! We have been using our base 10 blocks to "build", we have been "sketching" the numbers, and putting them into 3 different forms: standard (173) word (one hundred seventy-three) expanded (100+70+3). Such amazing math brains in the class! I will be a shoe-in for Teacher of the Year!
RESPECT DAY
Thursday was Respect Day, and we had a lot of fun. What's not to love about balloons, jump ropes, hula hoops, and bouncy balls?? I mean...seriously...no other school in the district does this. Go Westhoff!
